Dr. Kishor Deore, Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon in Kolhapur, played a pivotal role in saving the life of a critically injured 30-year-old accident victim who suffered a rare and life-threatening rupture of the trachea and collapsed lung. With the patient’s oxygen levels dangerously low and conventional anesthesia and ventilation impossible, Dr. Deore led the high-risk surgery using an advanced heart–lung machine with femoro-femoral bypass, keeping the patient awake while restoring the ruptured airway and successfully suturing the damaged trachea. The four-hour procedure, regarded as the first of its kind in India, resulted in a remarkable recovery, and the patient was discharged after 15 days—an extraordinary example of surgical expertise, teamwork, and life-saving innovation.
